Los Angeles Attorney Defending You Against Drug Possession Charges

Don't Let a Drug Possession Charge Result in Jail Time When Options Are Available to You

Whether you were arrested for possession of meth, for possession of marijuana (even if you had a doctor's recommendation), or for illegal possession of a legal prescription drug like Oxycontin, you need immediate and effective legal help.

Contact the Los Angeles Law Office of Marc A. Legget for a free initial consultation. I'm drug possession defense lawyer Marc Legget. For more than 23 years, I've been protecting the rights of people in Southern California who have been the victims of overzealous police action against drug possession.

California's drug laws allow for many different outcomes in a case. That makes it even more important to have an experienced drug possession defense attorney. I provide aggressive defense with the goal of getting charges dismissed or minimizing the consequences of the charges against you. I will never advise you to accept a result that is not in your best interest.

Defense on All Drug Possession Charges

As your defense attorney, I can represent you in any drug possession case, from misdemeanor simple possession of a small amount of marijuana, to felony possession for a larger amount or a more dangerous drug. I've defended people for possession of a wide range of drugs:

Was it For Personal Use?

If the prosecutor believes the amount in your possession was more than that for personal use, you can be charged with possession with the intent to sell, or with drug sales. The police may charge you with sales if they find text messages on your phone, emails on your computer, or any large sums of money.

Can You Go to Treatment Instead of Jail?

Voters in California have spoken and by approving Proposition 36, that they believe drug offenders should be rehabilitated rather than thrown into jail for drug possession. Proposition 36 allows people charged with drug possession to avoid jail by entering into a residential drug rehabilitation program.

The first thing I will look at when defending you against a drug possession charge is whether or not you are eligible for Proposition 36 drug treatment. There are some situations in which you will not qualify. Learn more about Proposition 36.
